I was wondering if anyone would be interested to go to beacon and have a good time!
|Sunday, May 4th, 2008|
someone stole my bike off our porch today at sometime between 6:30 PM and 10:15 PM. It was locked, and four people were at home. HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN?! I am so pissed/sad/pissed right now.
If anyone sees a dark (midnight blue) GT Arrette hybrid with a Diamondback cut-away seat, please let me know.
happier days. not a good reference picture for the bike, though. Current Mood: morose

bicycle stencil share
i made this today, and it's available if anyone wants to come over and spray.
(it was windy when i was trying to hit it today, so for clarification, it says, "Albany Rides"). Or you can cover up the text if you just want the image.

Please recall that there WILL NOT BE an ABC meeting in December.
Our next meeting will be in January. It is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, 1/31. There is a possibility that we may "vote" to change the day to accommodate more schedules. Stay tuned!
Our Critical Mass rides are scheduled fro December 28 and January 25.
We'll have a lot to do in 2008 including –
Implementing the Bicycle Benefits program in the Albany Metro area,
Working on bicycle safety/awareness issues,
Keeping bike-ped issues in the spotlight,
Supporting, promoting, and riding in May’s “Ride of Silence" in Albany,
Exhibiting at April’s Sports and Fitness exhibition,
Hosting more rides, and
"Politicking" to get things D-O-N-E.
Even if you are unable to attend meetings, please step forward to help in these efforts. Watch the list serve mailings and the meeting notes. A few diehards can only accomplish a little. Encourage your bike-ped acquaintances to sign up for the ABC list serve so that they can be aware and, perhaps, be moved to become active and supportive.

gripe about bicycle un-friendliness
I know this community is mainly a bulletin board for the albany bicycling community, but...
today was my first time riding the washington avenue/fuller road area: fun! First, a hummer (of all cars) came up behind me. leaned on the horn. feeling edgy, i flipped them off. they honked again, i pumped my arm and cheered sarcastically.
as you get nearer to the on and off ramps for the highway, traffic speeds up drastically. Another car invaded my personal space on fuller, and i came closer to being swiped than ever before. here i would have gone on the sidewalk, but it was filthy and probably less safe than the road!
On the ride home, i said eff this, i'm taking central avenue partway back and cutting down the backroads. Central has little to no shoulder and lots of traffic so i ended up riding on the sidewalk. Despite the miles of sidewalks these roads are not designed for human life, so i didn't need to worry about pedestrians, but i felt wimpy anyway. The sidewalks had lots of wheelchair ramps between the businesses of driveways. Riding up and down on them was, i daresay, fun.
My commute (i work on Fuller) was twenty minutes each way. i'd like to ride to work as often as possible, but i fear for my life.

i'm planning on going for a latenight moonride tonight, destination unknown. anyone who wants to share can meet up at the monument near the intersection of lark and madison (where lark becomes delaware; across from suzie's) at 10:30 PM.
